Women Who Sell With Danielle Scott
‘Women Who Sell’ is all about showcasing women who sell, and are thriving and challenging stereotypes. We feature real perspectives of what it’s like, the barriers and the breakthroughs.
Here, Danielle Scott, Head Of Commerical at Climb Online, shares her take.
What is your job title?
My job title is Head of Commercial at International Digital Marketing Agency Climb Online (Part of xDNA Group).
How did you get into sales and what makes it the career of your choice?
I’ve always really enjoyed meeting new people, experiencing new challenges, building relationships, and growing my network both professionally and personally. However, I never considered this to be an employable skill (or job!) until I began working at Climb Online as a Paid Social Account Manager.
We were a relatively small agency at the time and therefore it was all hands on deck when it came to supporting new business. I got involved with the pitching itself, and recognised it was something I really enjoyed and from there.
I supported the Sales team with many pitches, and my colleague at the time suggested I move across into the Sales team as she recognised that I had the skill set to become a successful salesperson before I saw it in myself.
Sales became my career of choice because it rewards effort and dedication. The harder you work, the more you can achieve, and that autonomy over your success is incredibly fulfilling.
Are there any barriers you have faced as a woman working in sales, and how have you overcome them?
I’ve always worked in a predominantly male team and I also manage a team of men. For me, I’ve never faced any barriers regarding being a woman in sales specifically.
However, society doesn’t tend to teach women the importance of being strong, confident and resilient (traits that are required to survive and thrive in sales). Therefore, I have had to work a bit harder on these skills perhaps more than my male counterparts.
What do you like the most about being a woman in sales?
In a male-dominated field, being a woman in sales can give you a unique edge. This distinction helps you stand out and be memorable, which is a significant advantage in sales.
What advice do you have for a woman wanting to get into sales and those wanting to advance?
Go for it! To progress in your career, you need to provide value and ask for what you deserve. You're in charge of your own career trajectory. If you want a promotion or new opportunities, don’t wait for them to be handed to you—ask for them. Once you’ve made your aspirations clear, you can work towards achieving them, but it often starts with having the confidence to ask.
