What is your job title?
Head of Paraplanning
How did you get into wealth management and what makes it the career of your choice?
I got into wealth management by falling into the finance industry after graduating from University with a Law and Business degree.
I did some work experience in an office environment which then opened the door for me into wealth management. It now makes it the career of my choice because we help people with being financially comfortable. Wealth planning is always relevant and complex but I love providing solutions to put clients in a better position than they were before seeking advice.
Are there any barriers you have faced as a woman working in the wealth management industry, and how have you overcome them?
Usually, finance is seen as a man’s role or area of expertise or traditionally that financial advisers are men. I’ve overcome this by studying further and being an integral part of the company I work for in terms of leading a team, providing technical knowledge and building good relationships.
What do you like the most about being a woman in wealth management?
I like breaking stereotypes and breaking those invisible moulds. There is no glass ceiling for us women.
What advice do you have for a woman wanting to get into wealth management and those wanting to advance?
Go for it. Do not think that being a woman has any hindrance to progressing in the world of wealth. This industry needs more women representation. Some roles in wealth planning still do not have enough women at the forefront. There is no reason why women cannot advance in wealth planning. Persevere!
