LIFE AS A HR MANAGER

‘Life As A’ is all about sharing what it's really like and what it takes to do the job. We feature what a typical day and the reality of it is like, the ugly and the pretty.

Here, Catherine Edge, HR Manager at TC Group shares their take.

What does your job involve?

Developing, agreeing, and implementing Human Resources strategies. I’m constantly working on providing an effective workforce management service for all members of staff.  This includes supporting and advising managers and colleagues on workforce issues to at all levels.

All aspects of our working day is to fulfil on our mission of providing a world class employee experience for our people.

What is your background?

I started as a Customer Service Assistant at TC Group in 2012, then in 2014, I moved into Sales, and then I joined the HR department as a HR Assistant in 2017.

What is a typical day like in your role?

It all starts with a morning coffee and a catch up.

We set our goals for the day and what the department must achieve. Amy, our HR Assistant, normally works on recruitment whilst I catch up with emails and close off any tasks from the day before.

We operate an open-door policy so we never go a day without colleagues popping in, having a chat or being that listening ear for them. A typical day at the moment definitely consists of a lot of Christmas Party planning!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working with Amy and seeing the difference we make to people both personally and professionally!

What’s the hardest part?

Disciplinaries, difficult conversations, and seeing people upset from time to time.

What makes it your career of choice?

Wanted a role that was more admin based and it went from there!
